  3. I think the Library staff are the most greenest - they recycle all of their paper and make sure they turn off all of the computers in the library each night.

  4. ICT recycle all their paper, but they use loads of power for the PC and never turn them off between lessons !

  6. Mrs Arango is by far the greenest person in this school! 1) She recycles EVERYTHING
    2) She turns off all computers (including monitors) and lights.
    3) She doesn't make you start a new page in your book for every lesson.
    4) She was recycling and recycling others to recycle BEFORE school even started promoting it.

  12. I think the more pressing issue, is who is not the greenest department? The huge amount of paper that gets printed off within humanites seems so ironic as these are the people teaching us about climate change.
Similarly all the trips abroad, With avation emissions acounting for 13% of the UK's contribution to climate change and the fastest growing source of carbon emissions why does the school continue to insist on flying? Some subjects such as geography have mandatory trips, why choose places such as Spain when the UK offers more than enough oppertunities. The up coming skiing trip and all the language exchanges, use flight as a means of transport. Trains are a much cleaner, greener way to travel and if needed, run right through Europe.
No matter how good paper recycling and light switiching off is, its the big steps that will really tackle climate change and can make us proud of having an eco status.

  13. In respect to Imogen's post 30 Jan - although I do agree with her on principle I think that the school is improving it's stand on the green front and there is still a long way that we can go. However, in terms of the trips it is an essential part of students development as well as their education. If we stopped all trips abroad then it would limit the opportunities for a lot of our students and change their educational experience. There are only a handful of trips that use planes on the whole most trips are via train or coach.
Rather than put a stop to these can we not look at ways to offset these trips?
