  1. As i get older I am becoming greener. For sometime I have recycled all of my glass, cans, paper, cartridges etc at home.

But more recently Mr Vickerman and I decided to sell one of our two cars to reduce our Carbon emissions. Along with this we have taken our holidays in the UK for the last two years and plan to do so again this year.

In school I am constantly trying to promote eneergy savings to students and all of my classes know how passionate I am about saving paper saving and the trees.

There is so much more I can do and I am making plans at home with respects to my garden (water butts, compost bins etc).

  2. In RE we continue to try to be Green as much as possible. Through using recycling boxes, teaching topics on the Environment to Year 7 and Year 11. We also have scrap paper trays to make sure that we re-use as much paper as possible. Out Humanities Blog also helps reduce paper usage through having materials and student responses on-line.

Well done Eco-Team on your continued excellent work in making our Academy a Green place to be.

    Mr Davies :-)

  3. Having young kids really makes me think about what kind of future they are going to have with global warming, climate change etc. Many people don't seem to care and say what's the point in changing when supposedly a new coal fired power station is built every week in China. But our Carbon footprint in the UK is still much higher per person. We should be setting a good example to the rest of the world!

Some of the things I have done to change:
Installed solar panels to heat my water
Recycle and compost stuff including cardboard
Holiday in this country whenever possible
Got rid of one car and now use bike/train/walk to work
Try to make short journeys by bike or walking
    Cavity wall insulation
    New more efficient boiler
Vegetarian diet (which is more sustainable as shorter food chain)
Try to buy food from Yorkshire or UK or atleast Europe - what's the point in buying butter from New Zealand when we make it in Britain!
Only turn heating on when cold and don't set timer
Turn radiators off when no one in room
Before buying something new like a camera really think whether it is necessary - has the old one broken or am I just wanting to keep up with technology?
Throw less stuff in the tip - freecycle it!
Tell students about carbon footprint/global warming etc.!

    What can you do?

  5. At School I also recycle as much as possible - mainly paper, but I do try to reduce the amount of paper that I use in the first place and try to reuse paper as much as possible. I also ensure as much as possible that the students in my classes think about the amount they waste and how this can be reduced.

It has been brought to my attention that all years use a large amount of paper in PDS on a weekly basis and I am currently trying to come up with a solution to this problem. Perhaps this could be something the eco-council take on in the near future.

At home I recycle as much as possible...paper, boxes, cans, bottles etc I also ensure that I don't leave things on standby for long periods of time and recently heard that 4 powerstations in England are required just to power things that are left on standby!!!!!!

Well done to all members of the eco-council, you are doing a fantastic job! Keep it up!

    Mr Toby

We recycle tins, paper and glass insted of putting them ine the normal bin.
At the begging of lesson i try to use the same page instead of starting a new one.
When i am doing work if i go wrong i try to rub it out instead of getting a new one.
